Amit Patel

Amit Patel began training in dance with Mona Khan and performed for three years with Naach as a dancer in the professional troupe. He went on to become an instructor and dancer with the Mona Khan Company. Amit also started a Bollywood dance team at his high school, along with a friend. They worked countless hours to make the team official and their work continues to be appreciated!

His first experience with teaching was at the summer camp in the India Community Center in 2008. Since then, he has always sought out opportunities to teach. He has assisted and co-instructed with senior instructors at the Mona Khan Company who have given him great advice and guidance; Amit realized that teaching is definitely an enjoyment for students, but also the instructor!

He teaches dance because he wants to spread the joy of dance. He truly believes that dance can bring people happiness and to share that with people of all ages is something he cherishes deeply. While having a good time, students become physically stronger, alert and agile, which has been his personal experience as a dancer.

Amit believes that dance helps him unwind, de-stress, relax his mind and through which he express himself in a unique way. Dance is his passion, love and companion. Just like a song can touch someone’s heart, dance has touched his.

When Amit is not dancing, he can be found at Ohlone College or doing homework while munching on a big snack (like seven enchiladas at a go!) He used to be an intense table tennis player and has won numerous competitions in the Bay Area. He loves food and can smell it a mile away (tried and tested!). He also watches Bollywood movies on a daily basis!
