America's Got Bollywood

Where and when is the show?

America’s Got Bollywood (Fall Showcase 2018) will be held at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center located at 25555 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward, CA 94545. There are two shows on Saturday, November 17 and two shows on Sunday, November 18.

Who is performing in the show?

Several hundred students from the Bay Area, as well as the company’s highly acclaimed professional troupe which has an impressive repertoire, students from our specialty programs: Emerging Performers, senior citizens in the Jollywood program and the Jeena kids!

Can I photograph & record the event?

Photography is allowed, but please note that flash photography is distracting to the performers and is therefore not permitted. You may videotape only the student performances. Tripods/camera stands are not allowed in the seating area as they obstruct other people’s view.

Photographing and videotaping the troupe performances and the Emerging Performer (EP) is prohibited and this rule will be strictly enforced. Prior to these performances, the audience will be reminded of this rule.

Can I buy food at the venue?

Yes. Food will be available for purchase. Please note that food/drinks are not allowed in the auditorium.

What is 'Brown Paper Tickets' and what is the ticket service fee?

Tickets can be purchased via the online ticketing service called ‘Brown Paper Tickets’ (BPT). A service fee of $.99 + 3.5% of the ticket price is charged per ticket by BPT. This is standard practice for any ticketing service and BPT is one of the most cost effective ticketing services available in the market.

How can I purchase my tickets?

Tickets are available for purchase online, until November 17th, at 9:30am. Tickets may be purchased (if available) at the venue on show days. Ticket prices will increase when purchased at the door.

What payment methods are available, and are online transactions secure?

BPT accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. BPT uses the industry-standard and secure 256-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption for all transactions, thus ensuring your credit card information and personal credentials are safe.

Where are my tickets?

Print-At-Home: During the order placement process online, you will see a button ‘Click here to print your tickets’ on the order confirmation page. Click this button to view a PDF file which will contain your tickets. You can then proceed to printing them. If you cannot print them right away, you can view your order at a later time to print your tickets (the order confirmation email contains a link to view your order).

Please bring your printed tickets to the venue! If you have tickets for multiple guests, please ensure that two people don’t have the same ticket printed for the event. Each ticket is tagged with a unique barcode, and once scanned, is invalidated.

If you do not receive an order confirmation email from Brown Paper Tickets within 1 hour of your order, please contact BPT at 1-800-838-3006 as soon as possible.

Are refunds allowed?

Tickets are non-refundable. You are responsible for tickets received from Brown Paper Tickets.

Are show seats assigned?

Yes, all seating is assigned. You can select your seats during the ticket purchase process.

Above what age is a ``child`` charged for a ticket?

Children aged 2 and above require a ticket. Children under 2 are admitted for free and may sit on someone’s lap at the theater but will not be allowed to occupy a seat if a ticket has not been purchased for them .

Is the ticket valid for more than one show?

No, a ticket is only valid for the show it was purchased for. Tickets are not transferable from one show to another.

Do students have to buy ticket to perform?

Students DO NOT have to buy a ticket to perform. They will be seated in the auditorium with the rest of their class! This ticket is non-transferable and must be used by the student only. (Students in the Bacha Party class will receive separate details from their instructors about tickets and seating).

Do students need a ticket to be allowed into the theater to watch the show?

Yes, every student will need a hand stamp to enter the auditorium and sit with their class. They will receive this hand stamp once they have checked in on the day of the show. (Students of the Bacha Party will receive separate details from their instructors about their tickets and seating).

Are parents allowed in the student holding area?

Parents/family/friends are not allowed because that space is reserved for student performers. We also want to keep the kids safe therefore anyone who has not signed in, cannot enter the backstage area.

When can students go to the auditorium to watch the show?

Students are required to report 1 hour before the start of the show. Logistics of being seated with the class, performing and being re-seated after the class performs is handled by show staff. Detailed instructions will be provided before the show.

When can parents pick up their children?

Parents are not required to pick their children up after their child has performed and have the child sit with them, unless the parent has bought an extra ticket for their child. It is advised that parents let their kids sit with the rest of the class to watch the show after they have performed. At the end of the show, parents can check out their children.

If a parent/child has to exit the auditorium during the show, please know that re-entry into the auditorium will be permitted before the start of the following act, so the performers on stage and the audience are not disturbed.

Quarterly Classes

Drop-In Classes

Students can drop-in to a Basic level class without prior enrollment. In Q1 and Q3 (non-performance quarters), students are welcome to drop-in to the first or second class of the quarter. In Q2 and Q4 (performance quarters), students can dropin to the first class only. We do not allow drop-ins for classes that are Intermediate level or higher.

If a class is full, we will not be able to accommodate drop-in students. Check the status of classes here.

Students under 18 years of age require a guardian to sign them into the class, without which, a student will not be able to participate in the drop-in class.

Age Groups

Our classes are for kids ages 3&4 (Bacha Party), 5-8, 9-12, teens and adults. We often have students who are well into their 60s also join our classes! Depending on physical conditions, we also have a special ‘Jollywood’ class for seniors at the India Community Center in Milpitas. Read more about Jollywood.

Attire and Shoes

Students should come to class in comfortable clothing that is easy to move in like workout/track pants and t-shirts. Jeans are not allowed. Sneakers or dance shoes are required.

Costumes

Students enrolled in a performance quarter receive a costume for America’s Got Bollywood! We have lots of costume-related answers here.

What to Bring to Class

Students are required to bring a water bottle to class.

Attendance

Attending all classes is highly encouraged. If a student will be missing a class, they are requested to send an email to the instructor in advance.

During performance quarters, if a student misses more than one class, the student may not be allowed to participate in the showcase. Attending the last two classes before the performance as well as the technical rehearsal is mandatory during the performance quarter.

There are no makeup classes.

Class Levels

We have four levels: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Master. Read more here.

All new students should register for the Basic level class in the appropriate age group. Students with prior dance experience may skip the Basic class – see more details in ‘Skipping Class Levels.’

Evaluations for Class Promotions

New Students:

If a student has prior dance experience, they may attend an audition to be evaluated for a higher class.

Continuing Students:

Promotion to the Intermediate level class is based on instructor recommendation. Students who are promoted to the Intermediate level class receive an email from the support team notifying them of the promotion.

Promotion to the Advanced and Master level classes are based on two things:

  1. Instructor recommendation
  2. Clearing the student evaluations which are conducted in Milpitas 2-3 weeks prior to the start of the quarter

Skipping Class Levels

New students who have prior dance experience can choose to attend an audition to be evaluated for placement into a higher level class.

Continuing students: See section on ‘Evaluations for Class Promotions’

Taking a Break Between Quarters

If a student takes a  break between quarters, they may re-join at the level they were previously enrolled in. If they take a break for four consecutive quarters, they may/may not be eligible for the level they were last enrolled in, and it may be required that they attend the student evaluations.

If a student is promoted to a higher level class and takes a break for more than two quarters before joining the higher level class, they will be required to attend the student evaluations again.

Age Proof

For the Bacha Party and 5-8 year old classes, parents may be required to submit a proof of age of the child if requested by the instructor.

Bacha Party - Toileting and Parent Involvement

Toilet training must be completed before enrolling your child in this class. Children ages 3 and 4 year old must be out of diapers at the time of enrollment.

One parent per child must be present in the lobby or outside the studio during the entire time of the class in case a child needs their parents help during the class. A child’s parent is responsible for taking their child to the restroom during the class.

Pick Up Policy

Children and teens should be picked up by their parent/guardian at the class end time. Parents/guardians who are late may be charged a fee if the instructor has to wait for the child or teen to be picked up.

Class Songs

The instructors along with our Quality Control team determine concepts and specific songs for each class. We often do a medley of songs for classes. We frequently introduce new concepts and dance styles to classes which makes for a very fun, challenging and unique class experience quarter after quarter.

Student Performances

In non-performance quarters (Q1 and Q3), there is a 10-minute in-class presentation at the end of the last class. In performance quarters (Q2 and Q4), all students enrolled in quarterly classes have the opportunity to perform at the Bay Area’s largest Bollywood resident show, America’s Got Bollywood!

Positions for the Performances

Positions are assigned at the sole discretion of the instructor and are based on students’ memorization of the routine, execution of choreography, performance skills (like facial expressions) and attendance, to name a few of the criteria taken into consideration.

Student Tickets for America's Got Bollywood

For the performance quarters (Q2 and Q4), the class price includes a free student ticket to watch America’s Got Bollywood. Students are assigned seats with the rest of the class in the student seating section.

If enrolled students cannot perform in the show, they can still use their free student ticket to watch the show. Instructors should be informed so they can plan accordingly.
